Borough Council Update

Borough Council is on summer schedule. The next meeting, scheduled for August 2, will be the only meeting for the month. Regular schedule resumes in September.

Council News

Downingtown Borough Council begins to pave the way for the new train station and development scheduled for the former Sonoco Paper Plant. At a public hearing on July 5th Borough Council approved an ordinance vacating Logan, Moore and Edgerton Alleys off of Boot Road and Brandywine Avenue. This is the first step in the future development of the Brandywine Station Development that will include a new train station, residential units and retail space on the former River Station Project in Downingtown. More news to follow…

Borough Projects

Bradford Avenue Storm Water Project - With a grant from Chester County’s Department of Economic Development, the Borough will be replacing and upgrading the storm water conveyance system from Church Street to the Brandywine Creek. PECO is currently replacing gas lines in the area to make way for the project. Work will begin on the new storm water pipe in the area of Bradford Avenue and Saint Joseph’s Alley in the next few weeks.

New Development

Woodbine Partners received approval from the Planning Commission and Borough Council for a new/upscale apartment community at Woodbine Road and Lancaster Avenue. Look for ground breaking in 2018.

Anthony’s Cucina Fresca (78 W. Lancaster Avenue) is expanding. Construction is underway.

Farmhouse Coffee & Espresso Bar is now open at 115 W. Lancaster Avenue.

East Branch Brewing Company is under construction. Located at 202 E. Lancaster Avenue, the new Micro Brewery will be open for business in the coming months. North Park Plaza (142 Wallace Avenue) is under construction. Look for new shops and medical offices coming soon.

Recycling Grant

The Borough received an Act 101 Recycling Program Performance Grant in the amount of $33,076.00.  This grant reflects the 2,836.2 tons of residential and commercial materials recycled by our community in 2014.  Congratulations to all and thank you for doing your part in supporting the Borough's recycling program.

Disc Golf Update Residential Parking Permits
The Downingtown Disc Golf course has made significant progress over the last few weeks. Today if you walk through Kerr Park you will see orange stakes throughout indicating the future layout of the course. Over the next few weeks the club anticipates a decision regarding an easement agreement from the Downingtown Water Authority regarding the use of the wooded area behind the All Abilities Playground. Following the anticipated approval we expect to have a course walkthrough with Borough Council and Officials to address any final concerns. The next step after the easement agreement and final walkthrough will be to install baskets. This will be completed once the Committee has reached the first fundraising goal of $6,500. Fundraising has consisted of a grassroots effort among local disc golfers and as of today, $4,235 has been raised towards the final goal of $14,000. With less than $2,500 to go on our first milestone the committee would like to invite Downingtown Residents and Businesses to join in our efforts for this great addition to Kerr Park! All the information regarding this project can be found on our Facebook page (click here) and donations can be easily submitted through our GoFundMe page. (click here) Sponsorship packages are also available for businesses and individuals. Current parking permits will expire on September 30, 2017.  New permits are now available at Borough Hall.   Applications must be submitted in person with proof of residency. Only designated streets/addresses are eligible for these permits. Please contact the Borough at info@downingtown.org if you have any questions. rules/regs    application
