Labor Day

Borough offices will be closed on Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day. There will NOT be any changes in trash/recyling pickup.

Library Love and Fall Book Sale Donations

The Downingtown Library will begin collecting DVDs, CDs and book donations on 9/5 for the Fall Book Sale. This year's Library Love benefit event will be held on September 29. Visit the Library's website for more information. (

Commission News

The Historic Commission is hosting their Annual Log House Art & Craft Show on Saturday, September 9, from 9am - 2pm at Kerr Park in conjunction with the Downingtown Farmers Market (9am - 1pm). Be sure to stop by and shop from a variety of arts/crafts/food/produce vendors and more!

There will not be a Halloween Parade this year, but the Parks & Rec Commission is hard at work on the Halloween Boo Bash in Kerr Park , scheduled for Saturday, October 28th.  This event will have a costume contest, pumpkin carving and a kids movie (The Great Pumpkin). Stay tuned for details!

PECO Utility Improvements in Downingtown Borough

PECO is scheduled to restrict U.S. 30 and U.S. 322 weeknights in Downingtown Borough, Chester County, beginning Monday, August 28, through late September, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for gas main installation. (click here for details)

Borough Council Update

The next Borough Council meeting is scheduled for
Wednesday, September 6, at 7:00pm.

Council News
Council will be considering four proposed ordinances at the September 6 meeting. As always, you can find information on these ordinances on the Public Notices tab on the homepage of our website at Council Meeting Minutes and Agenda can be viewed HERE.

The Disc Golf Course plan has been completed by the Parks & Recreation Commission.  The 18 basket course layout will be discussed at the September 6 Council meeting, where the plans could be approved by Borough Council.

Borough Projects
The Public Works Department is currently replacing a collapsed storm water pipe on Chestnut Street near Garfield Avenue.  Work should be completed during the first week of September.

The Chestnut Street Bridge replacement project has entered the last phase of design and permitting.  Although, always behind schedule, demolition work should begin in early 2018.

The Downingtown Municipal Water Authority is currently evaluating the cost and benefits for replacing the water line on East Church Street.  The project could be a combined effort between the Borough, PECO and the Water Authority, pending on the project moving ahead.

New Development
Dr. John N. Riccardo has been approved to construct his new medical office building at 361 & 363 East Lancaster Avenue.  His practice will continue to serve the community in the area of family medicine.  Welcome Dr. Riccardo. 

Borough News & Alerts Residential Parking Permits

REMINDER! The Borough of Downingtown is now using the County’s ReadyChesCo program as a notification system for our residents. This system lets you choose what alerts you’d like to receive and how you receive them. To sign up, go to To select Borough alerts, go to My Alert Subscriptions/My Community/Downingtown Borough and choose which alerts you would like to receive.

Current parking permits will expire on September 30, 2017.  New permits are now available at Borough Hall.   Applications must be submitted in person with proof of residency. Only designated streets/addresses are eligible for these permits.
