Job Opportunity JOB TITLE: Park Ranger (Seasonal) DEPARTMENT: Police Position Summary: Under general supervision, monitor Borough parks on foot and on bicycle to implement parks and playgrounds regulation. Work involves routine duties that require the use of various procedures, some technical knowledge and the application of clearly prescribed standard practices requiring the making of minor decision and the use of some judgment. Errors would be easily detected, usually by the incumbent and would result only in minimal confusion or clerical expense for correction. Contacts with others are normally to obtain or furnish or obtain factually information on the public. Flow of work requires close visual attention at least 50% of the time. Work requires periodic exposure to noise, dust and heat. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Monitor Borough Parks (Kerr, The Ponds (formerly Kardon Park), Sunnybrook and Johnsontown), two pocket parks, the Log House, the Brandywine and Lion’s Trail on a regular basis to check that the facilities open to the public are being used in a proper and prescribed manner according to Chapter 203 Parks and Playgrounds. · Educate the public and distribute literature on the reasons why the waterfowl should not be fed. Document on the Daily Log and follow Departmental procedures for handling all instances of the following violations: injuries, littering, improper parking in the parks, loud and boisterous activity, profanity, indecent or obscene language, public drinking, drugs, fighting, vandalism, and feeding the waterfowl together with any other incidents as determined by ranger. Enforce parking laws in Park System and on streets contiguous to Park System. Verify the approximate number of people using the pavilions and check it against the reservation list. Job Specifications: (* Indicates developed after employment) Education/Employment: Any combination of the education and experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of Borough Park Ordinance and Regulations. Abilities: Ability to walk for extended periods of time; to ride a bike for extended periods of time; to speak clearly and relay accurate and complete information; to recognize and interpret applicable codes and procedures; to respond calmly to angry or upset persons. Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors exclusively. Work will require responding on occasion to angry, upset or frustrated people and involves some threat to personal safety due to the constant traffic during work periods.
