The Alert Fire Company was established in 1887 and is one of
the ten oldest fire companies in the county. The Alert Fire Company has expanded
its facilities to house a fire pumper, a heavy rescue unit, and a 100 ft. ladder
tower unit. Alert Fire personnel have been called upon in life threatening
emergencies where their expertise has rescued trapped victims from vehicles and
burning buildings while using equipment such as the "Jaws of Life.®"
Many members are professionals in the firefighting industry and are always
available to instruct new members in learning new firefighting skills and
techniques.

The Minquas Fire Co. was established in 1908 to serve the
East Ward of Downingtown. Over the years, it has grown to a modern and
progressive force in Chester County. With two Pennsylvania Licenses Ambulances,
there is always some activity at the firehouse. A recently purchased pumper with
an enclosed cab was specifically designed for safety and ease of training and
compliments the other three fire apparatus. The two main objectives of Minquas
Fire Company are fire suppression and emergency medical attention. Ambulance
personnel primarily respond to emergencies within a seven township service area.
Fire personnel respond to all calls in Downingtown and East Caln and when needed
to any of the surrounding communities.
