The Downingtown Fire Department is comprised of dedicated
men and women who respond to over 450 fire and 1400 ambulance calls each year.
You too can become an active part in this ever-growing organization. While the
risks of firefighting may be considered high, you’ll be more prepared to
handle the emergencies that come your way from the training we provide through
county, state and national training institutes. You’ll be contributing to
the great tradition of neighbors helping neighbors. Whether you serve as a
firefighter, as rescue technician, part of an ambulance crew, fire police, or
office personnel, your time and contributions are invaluable to your
community. The skills and friends you gain will last a lifetime and the
personal rewards are beyond belief. It is the teamwork of the Downingtown Fire
Department that has shown through each emergency over our 100 years of service
to our community.
Alert and Minquas Fire Companies are looking for men and
women, 16 years and older, to serve the communities of Downingtown and East
Caln Township as volunteer firefighters or ambulance personnel. Training is
paid for by fire department funds and some are college accredited. Personnel

police at fire scenes and auto accidents.
After joining the Downingtown Fire Department, classes will
be given on the emergency skills you’ll need to become a vital member of our
team. You’ll meet with firefighters and ambulance personnel from both
stations every Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. to learn and practice various skills.
Although you may never need all these skills, the training will build your
self-confidence and give you the knowledge you’ll need if every called upon.
Each class and program you complete is a step up the ladder of achievement
that each member climbs. You’ll be proud to achieve the rank, as our members
have, the rank of a volunteer. Being a member is not easy; it takes dedication
and hard work. It takes a special dedication to become a volunteer because
your neighbors’ lives are depending on you! So call today – Downingtown
